Padlocks and combination locks do their job, but they come with familiar friction: lost keys, forgotten codes, fiddly handling and bodies too bulky for a daily bag. LOCKBB aims to fold security into the act of closing a zipper, using fingerprint authentication instead of a key or dial.

Fingerprint first

According to the campaign, LOCKBB attaches to the zipper of a backpack, suitcase or handbag and unlocks with a fingerprint in about 0.5 seconds. For a bag that gets opened repeatedly on a commute or at an airport, that is meant to keep access quick for the owner while making the bag harder for anyone else to open.

The maker lists two models, S5 and S7, each offered in app-enabled and non-app versions. The app versions add Bluetooth control, remote unlocking and shared access, so a travel companion, family member or colleague could be granted entry without handing over a physical key or a code.

Backup, battery and build
