Maono PD500W

A wireless dynamic mic with XLR and USB-C fallbacks, onboard 32-bit float backup and app-driven AI tools

Why it matters

Cable tangles, background noise and hours lost in post are familiar frustrations for anyone producing video or podcasts. Maono pitches the PD500W as an answer to all three, positioning it less as a standalone microphone than as a workflow tool for creators who would rather spend their time on content than on audio.

Wireless first, wired when needed

The core connection is 2.4GHz wireless. The maker says the receiver and mic pair automatically once both are powered on, with the setup ready to record within 5 minutes. A hybrid connection system adds XLR for use with an audio interface and direct USB-C for computers and phones, and a smartphone receiver is included for recording on the go.

A safety net built into the mic

With a microSD card inserted, the mic records a backup onboard while transmitting wirelessly, so a recording error on the receiver side need not mean lost audio. According to Maono, internal recording supports 32-bit float, intended to keep sudden loud peaks from clipping and leave quiet passages adjustable in post. A safety track feature simultaneously captures a second, slightly lower-level track as a fallback.

  • AI noise reduction that the maker says removes background, wind and mechanical noise in real time on a dedicated chip running Maono's own algorithm
  • Voice-to-text transcription with multi-language support and some accent adaptability
  • Automatic AI summaries of transcribed recordings
  • App control of noise reduction strength, voice presets, record start/stop and firmware updates

The AI features require an internet connection, and the maker states that 300 minutes of free use per month are provided. Maono says the mic's dynamic driver is tuned for the human voice, and that the pickup pattern can be switched between unidirectional and omnidirectional for solo or group recording.

Bundles and a smaller sibling

The Kickstarter project lists several configurations: PD500W Basic (mic, receiver, XLR and USB-C cables, extension pole, smartphone receiver), PD500W Desk Stand Bundle (adds a desk stand) and PD500W Dual Pod Bundle (two mics with receiver, two desk stands and cables), which records each mic to its own track. A more compact PD500X model, with basic wireless recording and AI noise reduction, sits below it in the range. Maono also describes multiple colour options, including black, white and limited editions with accent colours.
