Why it matters

Yukihiro Takenouchi built RIRAKURU into a relaxation salon chain with more than 600 locations across Japan, but according to the maker, he concluded that time spent in a salon alone could not deliver fundamental recovery from fatigue. His attention turned to sleep, and specifically to the pillow, the piece of bedding that sets the foundation for sleeping posture. The result, the maker says, is the Mirakuru Pillow, designed around a simple goal: adjust support to the body without complicated setup.

Support that moves

Most pillows hold one shape all night. The Mirakuru Pillow instead contains 6 air chambers that, according to the maker, shift the head's support position gradually through 2D movement along vertical and horizontal axes. The aim is to spread out pressure that would otherwise sit on the same spot for hours. The maker says the motion was tuned over its 10-plus-year development and designed around human sleep cycles so that it does not interrupt sleep.

Operation is deliberately minimal: there is no smartphone app, no Wi-Fi pairing and no mode selection. The maker says you switch on the power and press a single button once, and the pillow starts working automatically, an approach intended to suit older users and people less comfortable with technology.

Quiet, with electronics kept outside

The mechanism driving the air chambers is rated by the maker at 50dB or less, measured from 50cm away. The controller and electronic components sit in an external unit separate from the pillow itself, so, according to the maker, there is only air beneath the head and no power-related parts inside the pillow.

  • Size: 600×400×80mm
  • Weight: approx. 4.2kg
  • Power: DC12V/2.0A (24W) adapter, 100–240V input
  • Region-appropriate plug adapters included free, according to the maker
  • Removable, washable outer cover; pillow body and controller are not washable

The campaign also cites early tester feedback. It says Takenouchi's sleep tracker recorded a clearly higher sleep score with the pillow than with a standard pillow for the same sleep duration, and higher than when he slept an hour longer. Other testers reportedly mentioned less neck stiffness and fewer night-time awakenings. These are the maker's own accounts and have not been independently verified.
