ThermoShift

Cold outdoors rarely arrives in one form. It shifts as you sleep, sit, walk and lounge, and it creeps up from below in a hammock or bites the moment you leave a sleeping bag. ThermoShift is designed around that problem, according to the maker, by letting one piece of gear change shape to suit the situation rather than adding more items to the pack.

Seven configurations

• Single sleeping bag
• Poncho
• Blanket
• Picnic mat
• Hammock top quilt
• Hammock underquilt
• Warm cap (the detachable hood)

The maker adds that two ThermoShift units can be connected to form a double sleeping bag, extending the system from solo trips to camping with a partner or family. In a hammock, the campaign describes using it as an underquilt to block cold from below and as a top quilt over the body, so switching between tent and hammock nights does not require separate dedicated gear.

Insulation and materials

ThermoShift is intended for temperatures of 0 to 10°C, the maker says. It is filled with 800g of 90/10, 850FP HyperDRY grey duck down, and it incorporates a heat-reflective film meant to return body heat inward rather than relying on loft alone. The shell and lining are both 10D nylon, which the campaign describes as resistant to water and wind. The maker's materials do not position it as a fully waterproof shelter, but as protection against the discomfort of dew, damp ground and wind.

Weight and details

According to the maker, total weight is approximately 1200g and the packed size is listed as 36cm, with the stated goal of keeping the size and weight in line with a conventional sleeping bag. Because the design involves frequent reconfiguring, it uses YKK zips with an anti-snag slider cover. A pillow pocket for holding a pillow or clothing and a roomier footbox round out the feature list.
