Why it matters
Travel razors tend to involve trade-offs: parts to assemble, plastic handles, pricey cartridges or bulk in the bag. TrekGear's answer is the ModuRazor V2, built from what the maker describes as aircraft-grade titanium. Folded, it is roughly matchbox-sized; opened, it works as a full-size double-edge safety razor.
What changed from the first model
The headline revision is a one-piece folding head. The original required the head to be removed before the razor went into its case; on V2, the maker says a precision folding mechanism lets the head rotate into the body, so there is no disassembly. When unfolded, the head is said to lock automatically at a set blade angle, and TrekGear credits tight machining tolerances and a reinforced hinge with keeping the head in even contact with the skin.
The aluminium case was also reworked. Where the first version closed by magnet alone, V2 pairs a precision mechanical slot lock with magnetic assistance, which the maker says keeps it shut in a jostled trekking pack or an EDC pouch. The case doubles as a stand for the razor on uneven surfaces and holds up to 5 spare blades, with 1 blade included as standard.
Two combs in one head
The head is double-sided. According to TrekGear, Side A targets fine or daily stubble and sensitive skin for a gentler shave, while Side B uses an open-comb design meant for coarser growth, several days' beard and less sensitive skin. Switching is a matter of flipping the head.
- Construction: titanium throughout, with a hollow titanium-core handle for lower weight
- Case: aluminium, hybrid mechanical slot lock plus magnet, doubles as a stand
- Blade storage: up to 5 spares; 1 blade included
- Travel: the maker says it meets TSA standards for carry-on with the blade removed
- No power source required
TrekGear also positions the razor for everyday use, citing its small footprint on a sink, in an office locker or in a bag, alongside its corrosion and water resistance for humid climates and wet hikes.
