Why it matters

The premise is simple: plug the transmitter into a USB-C device, connect the receiver to a TV, monitor or projector's HDMI port, and the picture and sound arrive wirelessly. The maker lists laptops, tablets and smartphones as sources, and targets displays ranging from TVs and projectors to interactive displays and commercial LED video walls.

Pairing and connection

The transmitter and receiver come paired from the factory, so there is no initial setup step, according to the maker. Subsequent reconnections are said to take about 0.01 seconds. The link runs over a peer-to-peer 5G Wi-Fi connection between the two units, which the maker says means it does not depend on an existing Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth — useful in venues where guest networks are crowded or locked down.

What the maker claims

  • 1080P video output with support for up to 120Hz
  • Up to 50m wireless range in open spaces
  • Audio and video kept in sync, with a design intended to reduce ghosting, lag and screen artifacts
  • 100W PD3.0 pass-through charging via USB-C, so the source device can charge while casting
  • Ventilated cooling design for extended use
  • Multi-transmitter switching to a single receiver for back-to-back presenters
  • Size of about 6.5×6×13cm and a combined weight of about 38g

The pass-through charging addresses a common drawback of USB-C dongles that occupy a laptop's only spare port. Multi-transmitter switching is aimed at meetings where several people present in turn, avoiding repeated cable swaps.

Compatibility

The source device must support USB-C DP Alt Mode, the feature that outputs a video signal over the USB-C port. Devices without USB-C video output will not work with the transmitter. The maker also notes that real-world wireless performance varies with the environment.
