Why it matters

Most projectors are tethered to a wall outlet or too bulky to travel well. PAZY, a Kickstarter project, takes a different approach: according to the maker, a built-in 5000mAh battery removes the need for an outlet, and the body is roughly the size of a soda bottle, at 75mm in diameter, 121mm tall and 0.9lb (about 415g). A built-in strap lets it hang from a shoulder or a bag hook.

Projector and flashlight in one

The unusual detail is the base, which doubles as a flashlight. The maker says it switches on with one touch and offers three modes: High, Low and SOS. The idea is that a device meant for dark environments can also light a campsite path or serve as emergency lighting during a power cut. The housing is described as CNC-machined aluminum alloy, said to resist fingerprints and everyday knocks, combined with flame-retardant PC material.

Picture and setup

According to the maker, PAZY decodes 4K video (H.265, 30fps) while outputting at 720P, with a brightness of 100 ANSI lumens aimed at dim rooms and outdoor use at night. Image size ranges from 10 to 150 inches with a 1.2:1 throw ratio; the maker's example is a roughly 50-inch picture from 1.5 meters away. Motorized focus is controlled from the remote, vertical keystone correction is automatic and horizontal correction is manual. The projection angle adjusts from -25 to +205 degrees, enough to point at a ceiling. It can sit on a flat surface, mount to a ceiling or wall with a dedicated bracket, or attach to a tripod (sold separately).

Key specifications (per the maker)

  • Dual-band WiFi 6 (2.4GHz/5GHz) and Bluetooth 5.1
  • Micro HDMI and TYPE-C ports for consoles such as Nintendo Switch or PS5, external HDDs and USB drives
  • Android 11.0 with 1GB RAM + 8GB ROM; system updates via AOSP
  • Built-in 1.5W speaker, with Bluetooth speaker support
  • Infrared and Bluetooth remote control
  • Two color options

The maker says apps such as Netflix and YouTube can be installed, and that the Bluetooth remote works even from behind the projector. Taken together, PAZY is pitched less as a home-theater replacement than as a compact, multipurpose tool for watching, gaming and presenting away from a fixed setup.
