Rather than piling on features, the maker says the design focuses on making a fountain easier to live with day after day.

A motor that never touches the water

The maker places a sealed magnetic drive unit in a dry, detachable base, where it spins the propeller magnetically through the stainless steel. With no electrical components or wiring sitting in the drinking water, there is no submerged pump to remove and scrub. The water tank, tray and spout are made of 304-grade stainless steel, which the maker describes as smooth, durable, easy to rinse and less prone to scratches and lingering odors than typical plastic surfaces. According to the maker, the tank, tray and spout come apart in seconds and are dishwasher-safe, then reassemble quickly.

Filtration, power and controls

• Four-layer filter: a non-woven layer for hair and debris, ion-exchange resin to help reduce heavy metals, activated carbon for odors, and a final non-woven layer for fine particles
• Suggested filter replacement every two weeks for one cat, or every week for two, with app reminders available

Wi-Fi and an account are optional. Owners who want them can use the HomeSmart app to check filter replacement alerts and battery level, change modes and switch the fountain on or off from a phone.

The maker attributes the low noise to keeping the drive outside the water, avoiding submerged-pump vibration, and to a spout that lets water fall rather than splash. In sensor mode, the flow stops entirely when no cat is nearby.
