Placid Plastic Duck Simulator STUDIO

A miniature diorama that brings the aimless calm of a game about floating rubber ducks to the desk.

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Placid Plastic Duck Simulator has no objectives, no combat and no winning or losing: plastic ducks simply float in a pool. Placid Plastic Duck Simulator STUDIO sets out to carry that stillness into physical space as a miniature diorama recreating the game's pool and its ducks, intended as both a display piece and a small source of calm.

Recreating the pool

According to the campaign, the pool's surface is made from clear resin designed to catch light like real water. The ducks are modelled individually on characters from the game, with attention paid to each one's expression and pose.

Beyond the floating ducks, the diorama includes small-scale versions of elements familiar to players:

  • A parasol
  • A swim ring
  • A slide
  • A mysterious UFO

The set is described as compact enough for a desk, bookshelf or bedside table. The maker also says the ducks can be rearranged to suit the owner, turning the piece into a small stage that can be restaged by hand rather than a fixed ornament.

From the game's developer

The diorama comes from Mojito Studios, the developer of the game, which the source notes has also worked in areas such as board games. As stated in the source, the Kickstarter project had raised $98,598 against a $15,000 goal at the time of writing. Expansion parts, custom versions of the diorama and recreations of other stages are mentioned as possibilities, not confirmed plans.
