Planto

Planto's designers started from a simple observation: houseplants often end up in a corner, starved of light. Their question was what a lamp would look like if it were designed around the plant. The answer they arrived at is a loop in which the plant's water supplies the lamp's energy, and the lamp's light supports the plant. The maker describes Planto as the world's first water-powered smart lamp, requiring neither a power outlet nor batteries.

The HydroVolt™ Core

At the center of the system is what the maker calls the HydroVolt™ Core, which combines a 3D-printed aluminum mesh anode with a graphene cathode. According to the campaign, water and oxygen react to generate clean electricity that delivers steady power to a full-spectrum LED, with no cables, batteries or charging involved. Each time the plant is watered, the maker says, the system is reactivated.

Light for people and plants

The maker says the full-spectrum LED is tuned for both human comfort and plant health, with settings ranging from warm tones for relaxing to brighter light for focus and a balanced white for indoor gardening. Brightness and color can be adjusted in an app or by physically twisting the tank. The maker is explicit that Planto is not a substitute for commercial grow lights or agricultural equipment; it is intended for everyday living spaces.

For maintenance, the maker offers a dedicated booster to keep the HydroVolt™ Core clean, and says a solution of baking soda and vinegar mixed with water works just as well. A few minutes of care is said to keep performance stable over the long term. The maker also points to a long LED lifespan and a modular construction that lets worn parts be replaced individually.
