Why it matters

Phone-based shooters usually carry two things: a portable SSD for footage and a power bank to keep the phone alive, often tied together with a hub. MOVE SPEED's PowerDisk folds both into one device. The maker describes it as an industry-first portable SSD with charging built in, controlling data and power through a single port.

Recording and charging at once

According to the maker, PowerDisk's internal power management uses a "recording-first" logic, so footage such as iPhone ProRes 4K 120FPS video can be written to the SSD while the phone draws power. The maker says this meets Apple's performance and power requirements for external storage during ProRes recording, and that its dedicated firmware addresses the dropped frames and interrupted writes that can occur when an SSD and battery share a hub.

Storage and speed

Capacities run from 1TB to 4TB. The maker quotes sustained read/write speeds of 1000MB/s, attributed to enterprise-grade TLC NAND flash, a high-performance controller and custom firmware, and gives the example of a 10GB ProRes file moving to a computer in about 10 seconds. By its estimate, the 4TB model holds roughly 200 hours of 4K video at about 2GB per minute. LDPC error correction is included to guard against data corruption.

Power, safety and travel

  • 5000mAh built-in battery, about 18Wh at a 3.7V rating, which the maker says complies with airline and rail rules
  • 15W magnetic wireless charging, with magnetic alignment for iPhone
  • Included 20Gbps 240W cable for wired charging of Android phones, tablets and some laptops
  • Works with Samsung S23 series and later for recording video directly to external storage (One UI 7 or later required)
  • Protection against overheating, overcurrent, overvoltage, overcharging and short circuits
  • FCC, CE, RoHS and 3C certifications, per the maker
  • Aluminium alloy housing for heat dissipation, plus a high-cycle lithium battery

Taken together, PowerDisk pitches itself as both a capture drive for mobile video and an everyday charger, with the reduced cabling of a single-device setup as its central argument.
