Prometheus 3-in-1 Cable
A USB-C cable from AOHi that folds a titanium alloy cutting tool and a USB-powered igniter into one EDC piece.
Editor’s view
Why it matters
Everyday carry tends to sprawl: a charging cable, something to cut with, something to light a fire. AOHi, which the source says has worked on charging and storage products since its founding in 2004, is pitching the Prometheus 3-in-1 Cable as a way to consolidate all three. According to the maker, it aims to cover 80% of real-life scenarios, from the desk to the campsite, while staying pocket-sized.
A blade hidden in the frame
Built into the cable's frame is what the maker calls a concealed titanium alloy cutting tool, deployed by twisting part of the cable. It is positioned for tasks like cutting rope or opening cardboard boxes. AOHi says the titanium alloy resists corrosion and holds its edge without the regular sharpening or rust concerns it associates with typical steel knives, describing the tool as maintenance-free.
An igniter that runs on USB-C
The second function is an igniter powered over USB-C. Plug the cable into a phone, power bank, tablet or laptop with USB-C output, tap the button, and the maker says it produces a windproof flame in 1 second. Because it draws power from the connected device, there is no gas to refill, and AOHi says the flame resists strong wind. Suggested uses include lighting campfires and gas stoves.
Charging, data and build
- Charging: USB PD 3.1 at 240W; the maker claims a 16-inch MacBook Pro goes from 0% to 56% in 30 minutes
- Data transfer: up to 480Mbps
- Weight: 0.06lb (about 27 grams)
- Jacket: liquid silicone, rated by the maker to withstand more than 30,000 bends
- Connectors and tool frame: aluminium alloy with titanium accents
- Anti-tangle design
At its stated weight, AOHi suggests carrying it in a pocket, clipped to a keyring or hung from a bag hook. The pairing of 240W charging with 480Mbps data means power is the headline here rather than transfer speed.
