Why it matters
Phones, tablets, laptops and earbuds tend to arrive with their own chargers, and the result is a familiar tangle of bricks, cables and contested outlets. The SINEX CableNest, from Tailbone, is designed to consolidate that setup into a single unit that charges up to four devices at once.
GaN power in a small body
According to the maker, the CableNest uses gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors, which lose less power and tolerate heat better than conventional silicon, allowing a charger to be both smaller and more powerful. The maker quotes a maximum output of 165W and a weight of 510g, describing the unit as palm-sized and suitable for carrying on trips as well as sitting on a desk.
Retractable cables and a hidden Lightning adapter
The defining feature is the cable management. Three retractable USB-C cables, each extending up to 80cm, are built into the body; the maker says they pull out when needed and return to their slots afterward, with magnetic tips intended to make stowing them tidy. The 80cm reach is pitched at scenarios such as charging a laptop on a desk, a phone from a sofa, or several devices from the middle of a meeting table.
For Apple users, a Type-C to Lightning adapter is stored in the body. The maker says it attaches to any of the three USB-C cables in one motion, turning it into a Lightning cable for devices such as iPhone, AirPods or iPad, which could suit households that mix Apple and Android hardware.
Key specifications, per the maker
- Maximum output: 165W (GaN)
- Weight: 510g
- Ports: USB-C ×3 (retractable cables, up to 80cm) + USB-A ×1
- Simultaneous charging: up to 4 devices
- Built-in Type-C to Lightning adapter
- Charging standards: PD3.1, PPS, QC3.0
- Protection against overcharging, overcurrent, overheating and short circuits
- Includes a Japanese-standard power cable and a Japanese-language manual
The maker positions PD3.1 for fast charging of laptops, particularly thin 13-inch-class models, PPS for adjusting voltage and current to a phone's battery state, and QC3.0 for Android phones with Qualcomm chips. The USB-A port can also power small USB gadgets such as fans, humidifiers or cup warmers. The bundled power cable is a Japanese-standard plug, so buyers elsewhere should note the unit is set up with Japan in mind.
