Why it matters

Everyday-carry gear tends to multiply: a SIM tool here, a bottle opener there, a thumb drive somewhere at the bottom of a bag. TiBoost, a Kickstarter project from SmartX, tries to consolidate those small, occasionally essential functions into a single flat piece of metal sized for a pocket or key ring.

A stand and a storage drive

According to the maker, the phone stand uses a movable arm to hold a smartphone steadily, aimed at video viewing or online meetings, and folds down thin when stowed. The same body doubles as a USB flash drive with both USB-A and USB-C connectors, so it can move files between older and newer devices. The source states that capacity options start at 64GB.

The tool side

Beyond the electronics, the campaign describes a set of everyday tools built into the same slab-like design:

  • Built-in SIM card pin
  • Bit holder that stores three screwdriver bits
  • Bottle opener
  • Pry bar
  • Box opener for parcels

Grade 5 titanium build

The body is made from GR5 (Grade 5) titanium alloy, a material used in aircraft and medical equipment. The maker highlights its balance of light weight and strength, its corrosion resistance and its low tendency to cause metal allergies. The design is minimal and straight-edged, intended to sit unobtrusively in a pocket, on a key ring or in a bag, and to look appropriate in business settings as well as outdoors.

SmartX positions TiBoost for mobile workers, minimalists and outdoor enthusiasts who want fewer separate items to carry.
