TobenONE

A magnetic, modular 4-in-1 hub built from a base and swappable modules you can rearrange as needs change

Why it matters

Most docks are fixed bundles of ports: when your devices change, the dock often has to go. TobenONE, from the brand of the same name, takes a different approach. The maker describes it as a "modular magnetic 4-in-1" hub, developed after five previous crowdfunding projects, built around a base and a set of interchangeable modules that can be swapped as work setups shift.

Two bases, six modules

The base comes in two sizes: a 3-slot version and a 4-slot version, holding up to three or four modules at once. The maker positions the smaller base for simple laptop-and-phone setups and the larger one for users running more peripherals. Six dedicated modules are offered:

  • Wireless charging module: Qi-compatible; the maker says placing a phone on it starts fast charging
  • USB-C module: three USB-C ports for data transfer and charging
  • USB-A module: three USB 3.0 USB-A ports for legacy drives, keyboards and mice
  • USB-A + USB-C module: one USB-C and two USB-A ports in a single slot
  • Volume control module: turn the knob to adjust computer volume, tap to mute
  • 4-in-1 macro module: four programmable keys, defaulting to previous track, next track, screen lock and screenshot

Magnetic and single-cable

Modules attach magnetically. According to the maker, they hold firmly enough to resist accidental knocks yet pull off with a light tug, and guides on the base plus an audible, tactile click confirm correct placement. Each module's top carries an engraved symbol for its function, so it can be identified by touch. The maker says the hub supports up to 12 ports while connecting to the computer through a single USB-C cable.

Because each module is self-contained, the maker argues that future port standards such as USB4.0 could be added via new modules rather than a new base, framing this as a way to cut replacement costs and e-waste. The modules pair brushed-metal sides with a matte black top designed to resist fingerprints, and the base and modules are kept low-profile to stay out of the way of keyboard and mouse.
