Carrymove

An expandable 30L-to-39L backpack designed to shift between office commuting and short trips

Editor’s view

Why it matters

The premise behind Carrymove is familiar to anyone who owns one bag that is too big for the commute and another that is too small for a weekend away. According to the maker, Carrymove is meant to remove that split by switching from a work mode to a travel mode, aimed at digital nomads, busy professionals and frequent travelers.

Capacity that changes with the trip

The core feature is what the maker calls a Triple Capacity System (30L–39L). In its compact 30L form, the bag is intended for daily carry: a laptop up to 17 inches, stationery and a phone. Opening a zipper expands it to 39L, which the maker describes as a 50% increase, intended for a two-night, three-day trip or a short business trip with room for a light outer layer and spare clothing.

Organization and access

The maker says the bag has more than 25 smart pockets. A quick-access zone near the shoulder strap is meant for a phone, transit pass and wallet, while an internal "Tech Hub" provides individual slots for items such as a Switch, power bank, charging cables and earphones. A clothing compartment uses dividers to keep shirts and trousers apart from shoes or swimwear, and a hidden water bottle pocket on the side folds inward when not in use and holds a bottle with elastic material when it is.

Instead of a top-loading design, Carrymove opens 180 degrees clamshell-style, like a suitcase, so the full contents can be seen at once.

Materials, carry and protection

  • 2520D durable fabric with water-repellent properties, per the maker
  • YKK lockable zippers
  • Three carry styles: backpack, urban sling and handbag
  • A reinforced base that lets the bag stand upright on its own
  • A luggage pass-through on the back for mounting on a suitcase handle
  • A laptop vault with a suspended padded cradle that holds laptops up to 17 inches off the bottom of the bag
  • A laptop vault the maker says complies with TSA-approved specifications

On that last point, the source notes that the TSA-compliant design may in some cases save travelers from removing their laptop at security, but that this depends on individual airport rules.
