Why it matters

LAVA STUDIO is pitched as an all-in-one music system for guitarists: amp, effects, recording, learning and listening in one enclosure, so that playing can start without assembling a chain of separate gear and apps. According to the maker, the hardware centers on a 13-inch multi-touch display, a 2.1 audio system and an 800MHz DSP processor.

Tones, NAM and the amp engine

The maker says LAVA STUDIO connects to TONE3000, giving access to more than 25,000 community-made NAM models and boutique tones that can be imported directly. It supports Native NAM A2, lets players upload their own NAM amp models, and loads IR cabinet files. NAM is a neural-modeling approach to recreating the behavior of real amps and gear. The built-in lavaAI Amp V2 engine is described as targeting more natural dynamic response while cutting processing load by 30%.

Effects and control

The effects chain has been expanded to 10 slots. New additions named by the maker include VCA, Rotary and Tri-Chorus, alongside Guitar to Synth, Realtime Transpose, Synth Fuzz, Plate Reverb, Cathedral Reverb and Cycle Pumper. Presets and scenes can be switched by foot via the LAVA Effects Pedal.

Recording, learning and listening

  • 700+ backing tracks and drum grooves, with 8-track loop recording
  • Built-in mini DAW for multitrack recording, exporting full mixes or individual tracks
  • lavaAI Stem Isolation to separate vocals, drums, guitar and bass from a recording
  • Video lessons synced with interactive tabs, recording over backing tracks and jamming with other players
  • Bluetooth 5.0, Type-C, built-in apps, web streaming and lavaCloud Sync

Display, sound and design

The 13-inch touchscreen tilts up to 80 degrees. The 2.1 audio system pairs a woofer with dual 2-inch tweeters, and the maker positions it as a speaker for everyday listening as well as playing. The 800MHz DSP is said to handle complex effects at low latency. The enclosure is all-metal, and an optional height-adjustable stand is offered for desk, sofa-side or practice-space setups.
