Mokka to Go

The classic stovetop moka pot has always been a low-tech way to make strong coffee. Mokka to Go, a Kickstarter project from Swiss maker inbus5, reworks that idea for the trail: a compact, lightweight brewer that the maker says works anywhere there is heat, with no power supply or complex mechanism required.

Designed to pack

According to the maker, Mokka to Go is slimmer than a conventional moka pot and light enough to carry in a backpack without adding much burden. The body is described as using durable aluminum and stainless steel, intended to hold up to long-term use.

Any flame will do

The maker says the brewer is compatible with a range of heat sources, including camping burners, household gas stoves and even an open campfire. Its materials are described as having high thermal conductivity, helping it reach brewing temperature quickly, and the campaign claims stable performance in low temperatures, pitching it for winter mountains and cold climates.

How it brews

• Fill the tank with water
• Add ground coffee to the filter
• Place it on a heat source and wait a few minutes

The process follows the same principle as a traditional moka pot. Pouring the result straight over ice yields an iced espresso-style drink, and adding milk turns it into a latte or cappuccino if milk foam is available. As with any moka pot, bean choice and grind size shape the result, from richer, darker cups to lighter, fruitier roasts.

Beyond camping, hiking and travel, the maker positions Mokka to Go for small kitchens, balconies and offices where an electric espresso machine is impractical.
