Why it matters

Outdoor trousers tend to fall into two traps: overbuilt for everyday wear, or visibly out of place away from the trail. NAR Supply Co. says its Adventure Pants are designed to avoid both, combining technical features with a plain five-pocket look. The campaign reports that the project reached its funding goal early after launch.

The fabric

The maker describes a proprietary blend of 78% nylon for durability, 20% polyester for lightness and 2% spandex for stretch, giving abrasion resistance alongside four-way stretch. A DWR (durable water repellent) finish is said to shed light rain and mud splash, while fine vents in the fabric provide what NAR calls passive ventilation to release heat as the body warms up. Triple stitching reinforces high-stress areas such as the crotch and pocket edges.

Details, according to the maker

  • Expandable zip pocket on the side of the thigh, sized for a phone or navigation tool and reachable while wearing a harness
  • Pre-coated stretch panels at the knees to support crouching and scrambling
  • Adjustable zippers at the hem to switch between a wider cut over boots and a slimmer line with sneakers
  • A waist strap system offering up to 5cm of adjustment
  • Antibacterial, anti-odor treatment inside the pockets for multi-day wear
  • Dries within 4 hours at room temperature after washing, the maker says
  • UPF50+ sun protection rating

What comes next

In comments on the Kickstarter page, the team has suggested it is considering additional colors and a women's fit in response to backer requests, and has floated shorts and a jacket made from the same fabric. On materials, NAR states that its current fabric contains 30% recycled polyester and sets a goal of raising that to 50% by 2024. A limited edition upcycled from production offcuts is reportedly in the works, and the company has announced plans for a community design forum on its official site where users could submit design ideas.

The campaign positions the trousers at light hikers and frequent business travelers, and Modern-G notes that the maker's specific disclosure of fabric ratios and construction gives buyers concrete details to weigh against those claims.
