ROCKING & SWIVEL CAMPING CHAIR

A 1.8kg camp chair that combines 360° swivel and 15° rocking on an aluminum frame

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Most camp chairs ask you to stand up every time you want to turn toward the fire or reach for a tool. The ROCKING & SWIVEL CAMPING CHAIR, a Kickstarter project from Hong Kong-based RQOUTDOOR, is built around removing that friction. According to the maker, it is the first chair to merge a 360° swivel with a 15° rocking and reclining motion.

Swivel and rock

The swivel is carried on what RQOUTDOOR calls 5-axis CNC metal bearings, which the maker says reduce the catching and wear common to rotating chairs and improve long-term durability. The 15° rocking and recline function is pitched for slower moments: reading, dozing or watching a campfire.

Materials and portability

The frame uses aircraft-grade 7075 aluminum, which the maker claims is about 40% stronger than typical aluminum. The seat fabric is 600D reinforced polyester with a PU coating, described as softer than PE or PVC alternatives, less prone to trapping heat and odor, and resistant to abrasion, mud and water.

  • Weight: 1.8kg (about 4 lbs)
  • Folded size: 42×15×15cm
  • Maximum load: 113kg (250lbs)
  • Large non-slip rubber feet for sand, grass and rocky ground
  • Large side pocket in reinforced Oxford fabric

Behind the project

RQOUTDOOR frames the chair around a vision of rediscovering a connection with nature. The brand says it works with a partner factory with more than 8 years of track record, and, according to the source, the Kickstarter project exceeded its funding goal.
