Saccater Moment Earplugs
Earplugs built around a 600-mesh membrane filter meant to cut noise while keeping music and voices clear
Editor’s view
Why it matters
Most earplugs treat sound as something to block. Saccater takes a different approach with the Moment, which the maker describes as using the world's first "600-mesh membrane filter" to remove unwanted noise selectively while letting music and speech through clearly.
How the filter works
According to the maker, a 600-mesh ultra-fine polyester membrane combined with a dual micro-perforation structure attenuates noise between 1000Hz and 8000Hz while preserving the 200Hz–800Hz low range. The design is based on the micro-perforated panel (MPP) theory proposed by Maa in 1975, drawing on Helmholtz resonance and viscous friction as sound passes through tiny holes, with a two-stage resonance chamber used to control specific frequencies. The stated noise reduction is NRR 13dB, which the campaign says was confirmed through third-party testing based on ANSI S3.19-1974.
Instead of a straight sound path, the acoustic channel uses a 100-degree curve. Saccater says this keeps sound flowing naturally while improving fit and giving the earplugs a jewelry-like look.
Fit, finishes and accessories
- Four sizes of ear tips included, tuned for thickness, softness and feel
- Optional double-flange ear tips with UV light oxygen treatment, said to add +5dB of attenuation (sold separately)
- Four PVD metallic finishes: red, gold, silver and graphite
- Four crystal plastic finishes: clear, pink, marine and teal
- Carry case and storage box included
- Saccater Link magnetic anti-loss cord (sold separately)
The maker positions the Moment for concerts, cinemas, offices, libraries and even driving, noting that local regulations should be checked for the latter. It also emphasizes longevity: the earplugs are designed for up to 5 years of use, with replaceable ear tips and filters, as an alternative to disposable foam earplugs.
According to the Kickstarter project, prototyping and third-party testing are complete and the team is preparing for mass production.
