X&Y Bottle™

A bottle-shaped electric coffee grinder from Munich's XY Design, built to travel in a bag.

Editor’s view

Why it matters

Portable coffee grinders usually ask you to trade speed or consistency for size. XY Design, a studio based in Munich, Germany, says its X&Y Bottle™ avoids that compromise by packing a high-torque custom motor and stainless steel conical burrs into a bottle-shaped body meant to slip into a bag.

Speed and grind quality

According to the maker, the grinder processes beans at 1.5g per second. The stainless steel conical burrs are described as wear-resistant and able to maintain a uniform grind size over long-term use, and the internal design is said to minimize fines for a cleaner cup.

The maker also claims the X&Y Bottle™ runs noticeably quieter than typical electric grinders, attributing this to noise-reduction design inside the housing combined with an efficient motor.

Built for carrying

  • Thickness of 70mm and a weight of about 480g, per the maker
  • Non-slip texture on the sides and a thumb-operated power button for one-handed use
  • USB-C charging, with up to 20 uses on a full charge, according to the campaign
  • Multiple safety protections, including overheat and overcurrent protection
  • Grounds collect in a cup at the base for transfer to a dripper; tool-free disassembly for cleaning

XY Design positions the grinder for travel, business trips, outdoor use, car camping and remote work. The source states that the Kickstarter project raised well above its funding goal and suggests further accessories or higher-end models may follow, though no specifics are given.
