Why it matters
Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are colourless and odourless, and in tents, vans, garages or kitchens their concentrations can climb before anyone notices. Protmex built Mars Fabisense to address that, and says the design draws on five years of interviews with more than 200 outdoor enthusiasts and field workers, organised around air safety, portability and ease of use.
Gas detection
According to the maker, an imported electrochemical sensor handles detection. CO is measured from 0 to 1000ppm with an error of ±5ppm or ±10% of the reading, whichever is greater, and an audible and visual alarm triggers above 50ppm. CO₂ coverage runs from 400 to 5000ppm at ±(50ppm + 5% of reading), with a ventilation prompt above 2000ppm. The alarm pattern reportedly changes with the danger level.
The device also reads temperature from -10 to 50℃ (±1.0℃) and humidity from 0 to 95% RH (±5% RH), calculating a feels-like temperature in real time on its colour screen, which the maker says adjusts brightness automatically in low light.
Build and power
Protmex lists dimensions of 74mm×74mm×32mm and a weight of 80g. The housing is ABS engineering plastic, and the maker says it has passed a 1.5-metre drop test and a dust test. Mounting options include a strap hole, a folding stand and a magnetic back for metal surfaces such as van panels or range hoods. A flashlight and clock display round out the hardware.
Power comes from a 3.7V 2100mAh lithium polymer battery charged over a 5V 1A USB-C port. The campaign does not give a specific runtime figure.
Models and app
- Entry model: CO, temperature, humidity and flashlight
- Step-up model: adds CO₂ detection
- Smart model: adds app connectivity, clock display and device locator
On the smart model, a Bluetooth app shows live readings plus 24-hour and 7-day trend graphs, can locate the monitor within 30 metres via sound and screen flashes, and supports over-the-air firmware updates.
