Trio 3 & Trio 3 Pro

Juggling a report draft, reference material and an email thread on one laptop panel means endless tab-switching. Mobile Pixels Inc. pitches its Trio 3 series, presented as a Kickstarter project, as a fix: two extra screens that clip onto a laptop and fold away into a computer bag when the work is done.

Attach, extend, fold

According to the maker, the screens mount in seconds using either optional laptop-safe magnets or a built-in kickstand. The panels extend and rotate as needed, then fold flat for transport. Mobile Pixels says it addressed the weight of the previous model, describing Trio 3.0 as its slimmest and lightest yet, with a 14-inch screen size. No weight figure is given in the source material.

Two models, several modes

The series comes in two versions. Trio 3.0 Pro offers 1440p QHD resolution, which the maker positions for fine text, high-quality images, video, presentations and design work. Trio 3.0 is aimed at everyday documents, email and video calls; its resolution is not stated. Either screen can be used alone or both together, and one panel can be flipped 180 degrees into a presentation mode to show content to someone across the table.

Connectivity

• Works with both Mac and Windows, according to the maker
• Both extra screens run from a single cable, with no dongles or adapters required
• Some laptops with power-delivery limits may need two cables
• Described as plug-and-play

The concept is built around mobile work: setting up a three-screen station in a coffee shop, at a client's office or on a plane, rather than a fixed desk monitor.
